“Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless GOD’s holy name.” -- Psalm 103:1

As I write, the weatherman predicts that it will be 50 degrees this week. The snow piles have almost gone from my front yard where the sun shines. A friend on Facebook is expressing his delight that it is light again for his after-work commute. All around are hints that spring is just around the corner. It is a time of year when I am reminded of the many, many blessings that surround us all the time and can believe again that anything is possible.

Zwingli UCC has become one of those many blessings in my life. Each week I am surrounded by many reminders of the faithfulness and generosity, the curiosity and the good humor, the giftedness and the resiliency of the people who make up this church. You are a unique bunch you are a church that is over 100 years old, yet you are a church which is only two decades into being its own independent entity. You are an old soul with a young heart. You have deep roots and a youth’s whimsy and willingness to risk trying new things, to explore, and to ask thoughtful questions. (And they are TOUGH questions too, as I’ve discovered during Tuesday morning bible study!)

This month we begin in earnest seeking input from members of the congregation on questions that will become the narrative of your Local Church Profile. Surveys will invite you to describe the demographics of your family, and to name important events in the history of the church and community, as well as cast a vision of future needs and trends as you see them. You are also invited to assess the church’s current culture – how you live and work together. Where do you see the church excel? Where are opportunities for new leadership and attention? All of this will allow your Search Committee to fully describe who you are to prospective candidates. Again, I want to encourage EVERYONE to take an active role in helping shape the profile. If you have any questions at any time about the process, please ask me or one of your Search Committee members they are doing a fantastic job!

In worship, we are in the middle of our Lenten journey. It has been exciting to “meet” some familiar biblical characters and to see their stories “come to life” through dramatic readings. We are watching our jar of quarters fill up as people return their M&M tubes and help our Sunday School turn chocolate into gold and purchase blankets for Church World Service relief efforts. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, March 25 with a morning worship celebration for children of all ages! You are also encouraged to attend Maundy Thursday worship re-imagined for our world today this will be at 6:30pm on Thursday, March 29. Easter Sunday worship will be at 9:30am on April 1.

As our earth warms with the coming of spring, may your hearts be renewed and your souls find abundant reasons to bless the name of our loving God! Grace abounds!
