“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.
And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”
Maya Angelou, Celebrations: Rituals of Peace and Prayer

It is with deep gratitude that I begin my time with you at Zwingli UCC: Gratitude for the ministry that Pastor Sara shared with you for over a decade. Gratitude that God continues to open new doors in my life. Gratitude for your trust that a “city girl” is capable of learning a few things about “how we do things here.” And gratitude to each of the many members and friends of Zwingli for your faithful willingness to show up, serve one another, and listen for God’s call at this time of transition.

There is a great deal of work to be done, beginning with the calling of a search committee this month.  These leaders will hopefully represent the fullness of the Zwingli community, and together with ALL, we will explore both your shared history and dreams of the future to create a church profile and description of your ideal pastor that can be shared with potential candidates.

Throughout this interim period we will continue to worship and pray, laugh and sing, rejoice and comfort one another in the service of God’s vision for our lives, our communities, and our world. I am particularly excited about the POLKA SERVICE that is scheduled for November 12!  I often think of interim work as a time when congregations learn to dance with a new partner.  Our movements are not always fluid, we can get out signals crossed, and we can sometimes step on each others’ toes, but together, as we trust the music, what we accomplish may just leave us breathless!

God be with you, and look forward in hope.  Grace abounds!
