NEIGHBORS IN NEED – A SPECIAL OFFERING OF OUR DENOMINATION

Jesus makes clear that loving neighbors is an essential part of Christian living. But who is our neighbor?

Among the most surprising teachings of the Bible is that our neighbor isn’t just someonewho lives near me and looks like me. In the parable of the Good Samaritan Jesus taughtthat our neighbor may actually be someone we don’t know, or are afraid of, or maybe even despise!

Once a year churches around the United Church of Christ take a special offering for neighbors. The money raised in this offering supports a variety of local and national justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects. These projects include efforts to advance voting rights, address immigration issues, promote health care access, expose hate crimes and promote environmental justice. One third of the offeringis conveyed to the UCC’s Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM) to support Native American congregations in the UCC.

Here at Zwingli Church we will receive the offering on Sunday, October 7. Please use thespecial envelope which will be supplied, OR clearly write on your check “NIN.”
